Champions Chelsea stunned by Burnley on Premier League opening day

Chelsea got off to the worst possible defence of their Premier League title as they fell 3-2 to Burnley at home.

Manager Antonio Conte made a big call, handing 20-year-old striker Jeremie Boga his debut with £60 million-man Alvaro Morata on the bench. But the youngster's debut lasted only 18 minutes as captain Gary Cahill was sent off for a studs-up challenge and he was replaced soon after.

Burnley made their advantage count as Sam Vokes netted either side of a strike from Stephen Ward and though Morata came off the bench to reduce the arrears, Cesc Fabregas was sent off to take the Blues down to nine.

David Luiz's smooth finish set up a tense finale but Chelsea could not find the final goal to salvage a draw and fell to defeat.
