Men arrested for stealing diesel in National Assembly

Security operatives working in National Assembly Complex in the early hours of Tuesday arrested a three-man oil bunkering syndicate that specialise in breaking into the powerhouse of the National Assembly and scoop diesel meant for the operation of the generating set.

Also arrested were two staff of the National Assembly, Ibrahim Shehu and Abubakar Umar who allegedly aid and abate the influx of the thieves and also assist in coordinating their smooth operations within the complex.

Parading the suspects this morning, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the National Assembly Complex, CSP Nancy Ajaponna said the syndicate was accosted this morning by the joint operations of all the security agencies working within the complex.

“Though the security operatives are doing their best to make sure they take charge of the complex, but there are some few elements that can penetrate the Assembly due to the porous nature of some broken entrances,” CSP Ajaponna explained.

She, however, assured the public that the suspects would be thoroughly interrogated and other accomplices within the National Assembly would be arrested and prosecuted.

The Suspects, Dan Azumi Abubakar, Suleiman Obere and Umar Isah were accosted by the JTF while trying to escape through the Villa gate after scooping 10 jerrycans of diesel from the power house.

While answering questions from journalists, the suspects confessed to the crime. According to them, the illegal oil business has been going on for some times now.
