Popular Ethiopian actor, Znah-Bzu Tsegaye says he has sought asylum in the US after leaving the country about two months ago.
In an interview with Voice of America, the Ethiopian security forces had carried out "atrocious actions" and he had decided not to return home until the "regime is changed".
The actor, who has featured in famous Ethiopian films added: "It is sad to respond with bullets to people's demand for their rights."
Znah-Bzu left Ethiopia with his wife and daughter, who is nine months old.
He is the latest high-profile Ethiopian to flee the country.
