47 year old Mark Dixie, was on Friday, 24th November sentenced to life imprisonment for attacks on two women in 1987 and 2002 at Southwark Crown Court.
Dixie was sentenced as follows: Life imprisonment (minimum 28 year tariff) for one count of rape contrary to Section 1(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956 against a woman [victim 1] in 1987. Life imprisonment (minimum 28 year tariff) for one count grievous bodily harm with intent, contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 against a woman [victim 2] in 2002 and Five years (to run concurrently) for one count of indecent assault, contrary to Section 14(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956 against a woman [victim 2] in 2002.
The first victim was ambushed by Dixie in a car park in Croydon before he raped her in her car. Following the assault he used a silk tie from her blouse to tie her wrists together, forced her to lie down on the back seat and bound her ankles with the seatbelt. He then set fire to the front seat of the car and left her. The victim managed to escape and seek help.
The second victim was attacked by Dixie on a flight of stairs near a railway line in South Croydon. Dixie hit the victim over the head with a knife sharpener, fracturing her skull. He then sexually assaulted her.
The conviction follows a re-investigation by officers from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, which commenced in 2015.
