LagosPhoto Festival winner to get $10,000

The LagosPhoto Festival has moved to another level as whoever emerges the winner will now get $10,000 and a contract with the  National Geography.

The Director of the LagosPhoto Foundation, Azu Nwagbogu, said the cash reward was introduced to make the project more competitive.

According to him, one of the aims of  the  festival holding between November 24 and December 15 is to promote the Festival of Arts and Culture and the Nigeria civil war legacies.
He said, “There are two major historical events that continue to define the global visual representation of Africa and both historic events happened here in Nigeria: the Nigeria Civil War, with the declaration of the nation state of Biafra, and the Festival of Arts and Culture, also known as FESTAC 77. The latter’s attempt to redress the damage done to the image and representation of Africa in the media clearly did not attain its full potential and LagosPhoto will explore the legacy of FESTAC and the Nigeria civil war.
“The 8th edition will explore the various tensions between faith, reality and belief with intersection of photographic encounters.”
He added that the line-up of exhibitions and events for the year was expansively experiential in scope, transforming attendees from spectators to an integral part of the festival’s landscape.
“The winner goes home with $10,000 and we have a partnership with National Geography that will earn the winner a contract,” he stressed.
